  • How do I schedule an appointment?

With an estimated 50% of people with mental illnesses not receiving professional care, according to the National Institute of Mental Health, we make scheduling an appointment with a professional therapist easy and welcoming. You can give us a call or complete our appointment request form online, and we’ll connect you with the right provider at a time that works for you.
  • What should I expect at my first session?

At your first session, you can expect a welcoming environment where we'll discuss your reasons for seeking therapy, gather some background information, and outline your goals for treatment. It's an opportunity for you to ask questions and get comfortable with the therapeutic process.
  • How long are Enlighten Counseling Center's sessions and how many do I need?

Our standard sessions generally last 53–60 minutes. The number of sessions you'll need varies depending on your individual circumstances and goals. We’ll work with you to create a personalized treatment plan that meets your specific needs.
  • How often should I come to Enlighten Counseling Center?

The frequency of your visits will depend on your unique situation and therapeutic goals. Initially, weekly sessions are often recommended to build momentum. As you progress, we may adjust the frequency to biweekly or monthly sessions. We'll collaborate to find the schedule that works best for you.
  • What issues can individual therapy help me address?

At Enlighten Counseling Center, our therapists and trauma counselors can support you in navigating a variety of personal, emotional, and behavioral challenges. Whether you're facing stress, relationship concerns, anxiety, or life transitions, individual therapy provides a safe space to explore and work through these issues with professional guidance. Here’s a clear, easy-to-digest overview of the most common areas therapy can support:
    • Anxiety (general worry, panic attacks, social anxiety)
    • Depression (low mood, lack of motivation, hopelessness)
    • Stress management (work, family, or life pressure)
    • Trauma & PTSD (past painful or threatening experiences)
    • Grief & loss (death of a loved one, breakups, big life changes)
  • Can couples therapy help if only one partner wants to attend?

For couples counseling to be beneficial, both partners have to be willing to attend. That being said, if your partner is not willing to attend therapy, engaging in personal therapy with a professional therapist can be helpful and positively impact relationships.
  • Do all family members need to attend every session?

Not necessarily. A professional therapist will guide the sessions based on your family’s needs, which means different members may join at different times. This flexibility often helps address specific challenges more effectively. Family therapy is designed to be dynamic, so a therapist may invite different combinations of family members depending on:
    • The issue being addressed
    • Who is most affected
    • Who contributes to the dynamic being discussed
    • Who needs support at that time
  • What issues can family therapy address?

Family therapy helps families work through challenges that impact the entire family system, not just one member. Our skilled therapists and trauma counselors support improving communication, resolving conflicts, and navigating life transitions or stressful situations together, creating stronger, healthier family connections.
  • What is EMDR therapy, and how can it help me?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a therapy that helps the brain process traumatic memories more effectively. Using bilateral stimulation such as guided eye movements, taps, or sounds, EMDR can reduce the emotional impact of trauma and support healing.
  • What is Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy?

IFS therapy helps you explore different “parts” of yourself and understand how they influence your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. This approach promotes self-awareness, emotional healing, and improved coping strategies.
  • Will my insurance cover therapy sessions?

Coverage varies by plan, so we recommend contacting your insurance provider to confirm benefits. Our office can assist with claims, provide superbills for out-of-network reimbursement, and help answer any billing questions.
  • How will I know how much my sessions will cost?

Your cost depends on your insurance plan, including copays, deductibles, and out-of-network coverage. Our office can help estimate your session fee based on your plan details.
  • Can I pay for sessions if I don’t use insurance?

Yes. You can pay directly through our secure online portal using a credit/debit card. We can also provide a superbill for possible reimbursement if your plan allows.
